Key Technologies of Energy Saving and Consumption Reduction in Transformer

1. The use of new materials in transformer manufacturing, replacing aluminum alloy or steel materials with novel materials, can enhance the corrosion resistance of transformers and reduce resistance, thereby achieving the goal of energy conservation and consumption reduction. Currently, there are mainly two types of new materials that are popular. The first is oxygen-free copper material, which can effectively reduce the internal resistance of the coils of distribution transformers and achieve the goal of energy conservation and consumption reduction. Oxygen-free copper material has the advantages of simple processing technology, convenient material procurement, and low cost, and it also helps to enhance the ability of distribution transformers to resist short circuits. The second is the use of amorphous alloy material as the magnetic material for distribution transformers. The iron core made of amorphous alloy material can effectively reduce electromagnetic losses, thereby achieving the goal of improving the economy of distribution transformers.

2. The loss of transformers equipped with automatic voltage regulators (AVRs) is closely related to the voltage of the distribution network. By installing corresponding compensating capacitors on the load tap positions of the transformer, the operating voltage of the distribution network can be appropriately optimized and adjusted. An AVR is a device that utilizes a three-phase coupled transformer to automatically adjust the transformation ratio according to the actual input voltage value of the distribution transformer, ensuring stable output voltage. It automatically adjusts the input voltage value within 3% of the normal value and uses an internal corresponding controller to perform real-time control of the voltage of the entire system, achieving significant energy saving and consumption reduction

3. Economic Operation Mode of Distribution Transformers The energy consumption of distribution transformers is not only related to the manufacturing materials and processing technology of the distribution equipment, but also significantly influenced by the operation mode of the transformers. Therefore, optimizing the operation mode of distribution transformers is crucial for energy conservation and consumption reduction. Currently, China still adopts the traditional operation mode of distribution transformers, which is not reasonable enough, resulting in high energy consumption during operation and failing to meet economic requirements. In practical distribution systems, a reactive power compensation method can be adopted. Specifically, reactive power compensation components can be installed in parallel with transformers in the distribution system, which can provide reactive power consumed by inductive loads.

Common methods also include: firstly, grouped compensation of distribution transformers, installing parallel non-power-consuming components at low voltage; secondly, adopting advanced technical means to maintain the three-phase operation of transformers in a long-term balanced state. Additionally, an important technical method to reduce the operational loss of distribution transformers is to basically maintain the balance of the distribution transformers by adjusting the balance of three-phase loads. In actual distribution transformers, when the three-phase loads are imbalanced, it can lead to negative-sequence voltage, causing fluctuations in system voltage, thus affecting the energy consumption of the distribution system. When the three-phase of a distribution transformer is imbalanced, it not only increases its own energy consumption but also increases line loss, so it is necessary to maintain the balance of three-phase electricity.
